JOB DESCRIPTION
BACKGROUND
Job Title: Family Educator
Reports To: Area Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
PURPOSE OF JOB
To provide Head Start/Early Head Start home-based services to children and families.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY NO. 1 - 60% OF TIME
Description: In partnership with the parent/guardian formulate individualized child development goals and engage families in identifying their strengths/needs/interests to lay a foundation for lifelong parent and child success.
Task No. 1 Assist parents with planning weekly home visit activities and evaluating outcomes weekly.
Task No. 2 Teach parents to observe and plan developmentally appropriate activities to foster positive child/parent interactions.
Task No. 3 Plan and conduct, at least two, small/large group socializations monthly.
Task No. 4 Provide health education and experiences to families.
Task No. 5 Ensure that families are maintaining program enrollment requirements.
Task No. 6 Participate in IEP/IFSP staffing as needed per caseload.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY NO. 2 - 20% OF TIME
Description: Maintain appropriate records required by the program.
Task No. 1 Establish and maintain a hard copy file with completed paperwork.
Task No. 2 Record all information into Child Plus system.
Task No. 3 Maintain all requirements of the Teaching Strategies Gold system.
Task No. 4 Maintain Head Start Performance Standards and document as mandated.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY NO.3 - 10% OF TIME
Description: Conduct assessments of family needs and resources.
Task No. 1 Initiate and maintain activities that will involve parents within program as policy makers, employees, volunteers and educators of their children.
Task No. 2 Make referrals to appropriate components and outside agencies as needed.
Task No. 3 Empower parent/guardian to utilize all available community, social, educational and health resources.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES - 10% OF TIME
Task No. 1 Participate in parent meetings and field trips.
Task No. 2 Attend supervisions and team meetings as required.
Task No. 2 Assist with the recruitment of families.
Task No. 3 When necessary transport families to program events and/or child health care appointments that are required by program mandates.
Task No. 4 Perform other duties as assigned.
FORMAL EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS (IF ANY) NORMALLY ASSOCIATED WITH JOB
Necessary: BA or equivalent (minimum Associates degree in Social Work, Psychology, Early Childhood Education or related field.
Desirable: Bachelors Degree in any of above disciplines

EXPERIENCE
Working in child and family services.
Working with low-income children and families preferable.
Working in a social service or educational setting preferable.

Ability to observe and report accurately on the functioning of individuals and families
Individual must possess maturity in exercising judgment
Must be skilled in establishing relationships with individuals and families that maintain and promote their self-respect and encourage their independence
Must be skilled in assessing the progress of individuals and families regarding their Family Partnership Agreement and individual child outcomes
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Indoor office environment, client home environment, indoor socialization environment
Some outdoor socialization
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
Must be able to crouch and sit on floor
Must be able to climb stairs in order to obtain entrance into a clients home as needed.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Scheduled is flexible in order to scheduled home visits, however, may need to work some evenings or weekends.
Individual must be respectful and accepting of diverse health and parenting beliefs.
Individual must be sensitive to the socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of the service population.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
